Google created Made with Code to encourage teen girls to pursue computer science. There's only one problem: they don't think coding is cool. Based on consumer insights research, we discovered that these girls are part of the most entrepreneurial generation in history (Gallup) and care about philanthropic efforts (JWT Intelligence). To change their perceptions around coding, we had to show them that code has the power to change the world. Enter: Change is Made with Code.
Swift focused on identifying relatable female mentors whose innovations make the world a better place. During the 5th Annual Global Citizen Festival, we debuted an inspiring film about women making a difference with code to a concert audience of 70,000 engaged global citizens plus an audience of millions of YouTube Livestream & MSNBC viewers. Priyanka Chopra announced a coding scholarship challenge in partnership with UN Women and the non-profit Technovision, as graphics coded by teen girls on Made with Code’s website appeared on the main stage during Ellie Goulding's performance. The campaign resulted in 860K site views and 90K Blockly coding project engagements. We think the future is in pretty good hands.
