A new era begins

After 25 years working with the same design firm, the Portland International Film Festival (PIFF) decided it was time for a change. They came to us looking for a modern creative agency who could not only deliver a complete rebrand, but help guide them into the future as a force in the international festival circuit.

While classic cinema is steeped in tradition, “Cinema Unbound” speaks to an ever-changing medium that transcends definition. To reflect the collision of established and emerging creativity, the new PIFF logo weaves together sans serif and serif fonts, uppercase and lowercase, resolving in a mark that evokes movement. With nods to the past, the PIFF lockup turns an eye to the future.

Photography and film created by Swift also challenge convention, with diverse portraiture and landscape photography spliced together in unexpected shapes and vibrant colors. The result is a dynamic body of brand work that speaks to the “push/pull” interplay between filmmaker and audience, letting the viewer participate in the story through their own experience of the work.
